We’re excited to share that our House in the Woods project was featured in Architectural Record! It was selected to be one of 5 houses in the single-family residential section. I’m incredibly grateful to be included alongside architects I’ve admired since architecture school, especially with our first completed project. This certainly does not happen in a vacuum and it’s only possible when the clients, architect, builder, engineers, craftsmen, and photographer embrace a shared vision for the finished product.

Though it’s easy to keep moving forward without pausing to reflect, I took a moment to celebrate. I met my wife in Paris for a relaxing weekend away (without the kiddos!).

Old Lyme, CT | Update

Lots of progress at the House in the Meadow. The exterior shingles are going up and the interiors are really starting to take shape—the client is down to party with color. Check out updates in the “Construction Progress” section of the website for more.

Sapia Builders

Tourists | The Berkshires, MA

“TOURISTS is a hotel and riverside retreat inspired by the classic American roadside motor lodge, set on the banks of the Hoosic River in the Berkshires city of North Adams.”

Those brief bouts of warm weather have us dreaming of summer. A few years back we visited this hotel and we loved it (a co-owner is a member of the band Wilco so they have great music piped throughout the property).

Severance | Bell Works

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely loved Apple TV+’s Severance. The architecture, set design, and color palette really set the tone for the show. The account @movieluts breaks down the 60/30/10 color palette, which really heightens the viewers’ focus and ups the intensity of the scenes.

Bell Works, designed by legendary architect Eero Saarinen, served as the set location for Lumon Industries. In reality, it’s a vibrant spot. The developers refer to the massive building as a “metroburb,” and it’s open to the public—we’ll hopefully get the chance to visit this spring.

Earlier this month, I met with builders to discuss the current building material concerns. On every job, we encounter material shortages and fluctuations in material prices. A collaborative team is nimble and can pivot when necessary in order to satisfy budget, timeline, and performance goals. Quite often when we are faced with these design exercises the end result is better than what was originally intended! As always, I’m happy to discuss the process in greater depth.
