HAPPY 4TH OF JULY🧨

We hope you and your loved ones have had a happy, productive, and healthy year thus far. Below is a sampling of in-progress and completed projects, as well as experiences and places that continue to inspire our work.
 

New England Country House

Framing is well underway at the project overlooking a meadow in Old Lyme, CT. We are really happy with how the house nestles into the existing mature landscape and are excited for when the meadow starts to take shape (the clients’ young boys will undoubtably miss the huge pile of dirt to play in!).

Mid-century Modern

Our clients hosted a house-warming party last monthβ€”there couldn’t have been a better way to kick off the summer season. Guests naturally gravitated towards the fifty-foot-wide covered deck overlooking the Connecticut River. After nearly two years of working with talented craftspeople to realize this project, it was really special to see clients, who are now friends, share their home with the community.

Travel Domestic

We spent a long weekend in Charleston, SC. Although the addition of cruise ships have brought with them a construction boom of out-of-scale condos and hotels, there is still plenty of charm left to make the β€œHoly City” a worthwhile destination.

Rec’s: Harken (pictured) in the French Quarter for a casual brunch and darn good biscuits. The Obstinate Daughter for Low-country influenced French/Italian/Spanish fare and a raw bar (great after visiting the less-crowded Sullivan’s Island beaches). The area β€œSouth of Broad” is best for strolling and appreciating the old architecture.
 

Travel Far

This past spring, Tom and his wife Sera celebrated their 10-year anniversary with a trip to Mandarina located along the Pacific coast of Mexico. Studio Rick Joy expertly situated the pools, amenities, and freestanding guest rooms to capture views of the jungle, adjacent mountains, and/or deep turquoise sea while minimizing the disruption to the existing landscape. The resulting effect was nothing less than transportive.
 

Landscape inspiration

Since it opened nearly 10 years ago, Grace Farms in New Canaan continues to be an inspiration. Not only is the River Building and surrounding landscape inspiring (designed by SANAA and Olin Studio respectively), but so is the philanthropic work of the Grace Farms Foundation: Design for Freedom .

The β€œLove Grass" pictured is also part of our clients’ seed mix for their meadow at the house in Old Lyme.
